Official Sales Agency for Collector's Coins of the Federal Republic of Germany (VfS)
The VfS is the Official Sales Agency for Collector's Coins of the Federal Republic of Germany. German coins are issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

 

History of the VfS
On 6 December 1967, with collectors showing increasing interest in German commemorative coins and regular currency coins, the Federal Ministry of Finance instructed the Federal Debt Administration to set up the Official Sales Agency for Collector's Coins of the Federal Republic of Germany. The VfS handled the sale and distribution of coins on behalf of the German mints.

Federal Securities Administration
At the start of 2002, the Federal Debt Administration was renamed the Federal Securities Administration. The Official Sales Agency for Collector's Coins of the Federal Republic of Germany remained part of the new body.

Pan-European invitation to tender
Faced with the introduction of the euro and new products (e.g. gold coins), and against the background of growing interest among collectors, the governmental structure began showing signs of strain in terms of sales and marketing. To improve efficiency and customer service, the Federal Ministry of Finance decided to outsource these functions to a private service provider in a pan-European invitation to tender.

Deutsche Post AG as a service provider for the Federal Ministry of Finance
Since 1 January 2006, the Philately Business Department of Deutsche Post AG has been handling these functions on behalf of and for the account of the Federal Ministry of Finance. This service contract has a duration of 10 years. The contracted services include marketing, accounting/electronic data processing, warehousing and sales. The trademark "Verkaufsstelle für Sammlermünzen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (VfS)" has been retained, along with the familiar logo.

VfS customers receive their coins conveniently by post, as an individual order or on subscription. Buying on subscription guarantees that the collection is complete - essential if your collection is to increase in value.

Free customer magazine
Every VfS customer also receives a complementary copy of the quarterly customer magazine "prägefrisch.de". The magazine covers interesting topics related to coin collecting, for example new coins, facts about coin collecting, details of events and books and much more.
